We started out with the soccer team breakfast at Gator's Dockside. From there it was off to see a cistern Benchmark. And last but not least to Lake Alice for a walk in the woods and a gator viewing. There was a baby but he was too hidden for a good photo so here is fungi instead. I'm fascinated by fungi.

SFC Collegiate Veterans Society to Hold Flag Ceremony to Commemorate 9/11
The Collegiate Veterans Society comprised of student veterans at Santa Fe College are holding a special flag ceremony at the Northwest Campus on Thursday, Sept. 11, to commemorate the seventh anniversary of 9/11/2001. The ceremony starts at 4:30 p.m. sharp in the Patriot's Circle in front of the Alan J. Robertson Administration Building and will last for 10 or 15 minutes, so please be prompt. (Enter campus on Administrative Road off NW 83rd Street and follow the road until it dead ends at the flag poles). The retired flag will be presented to a representative or the family of U.S. Army Maj. Alan Rogers of Hampton, who was killed Jan. 27 in Baghdad.

Tamsen Pintler, a five-year veteran and president of the Collegiate Veterans Society, will welcome guests to the circle, which was created in honor of two former SFC students killed in Iraq.

After the National Anthem, 12-year veteran Jason Cohenpeer will direct the flag detail. Student veterans who have served in Iraq and/or Afghanistan will form up on the Administration Building's sidewalk, march across the drive onto the sidewalk to the central flag pole.

The detail, while taps are played by Ernesto Rancell, a seven-year active duty Marine, will retire the American Flag to James Mitzel, a community leader in Hampton who is organizing a memorial for Rogers.
